For the sake of discussion, let's leave aside the question of whether it's right to reward lawbreakers by allowing them to stay, while those who follow the rules must wait permission to come here. What will be the effect of creating a "path to citizenship" for the estimated 10-12 million illegal aliens in America? How will that affect our economy and culture? It seems that most people advocating amnesty -- whatever they call it to soften the blow -- refuse to look at the consequences. It's worth the risk of being called "anti-immigrant" to examine the real impact of absorbing so many people at once. |
| Skye April 4, 2006 07:47 PM PDT I don't know what is worse, the pandering by Dems or open borders? Yet another excellent analysis. Well done, Cav! ---------------------------------------- Millions of new voters will cause an orgy of pandering across the nation. Democrats, of course, will campaign based on whatever goodies they can offer the new voters on the public dime. | ||
| ActionAmerica April 5, 2006 11:04 PM PDT D@#%! I wish that I had said that. This article actually puts the whole immigration issue into complete perspective. This should be required reading for all of the members of the Senate (and the House, too, for that matter). There is nothing else to be said. | ||
| jimmy April 10, 2006 05:13 AM PDT this is the worst analysis ever. Many say this country was founded by immigrants seeking out a better life for themselves and their families. A secure future without damnation. If asked what has change about that, from then to now, I'd say: NOTHING. It is a basic HUMAN RIGHT to want seize the opportunity at a better life much like our founding fathers. It is crazy to think that illegal immigrants steal american jobs. President Bush said "we want them to come here legally to do the jobs americans wont do." Is he suggesting that americans are too good for janitorial work!? Perhaps. Instead of worrying about this immigration issue, we should be focused on the things unfinished: Iraq War (aka war on terror bull), stabilizing Social Security for retirement, and Education among other things. Illegal immigrants cleaned up Ground Zero in 01, they built this country from its foundations during the colonization of north american, to make the great USA the Empire it is today. At least then we were slaves...now we're felons. | ||
| JM April 10, 2006 08:56 AM PDT >this country was founded by >immigrants Do you understand the difference betwen legal and illegal immigrants, or is that too sophisticated for you? >It is a basic HUMAN RIGHT to >want seize the opportunity It is not a basic human right, however, to violate our laws. >It is crazy to think that illegal >immigrants steal american jobs. They are willing to work for far less than legal immigrants or Americans, so they drive down wages to the point where Americans and legal immigrants can't afford to take those jobs. I really can't explain it more simply than that. >Iraq War (aka war on terror bull), Your mean there's no such thing as terrorists? >they built this country No, that was legal immigrants. Still can't tell the difference between legal and illegal, huh? How about I steal your car. Is it mine legally, or illegally? >At least then we were >slaves...now we're felons. Slaves did not choose to come here, and did not voluntarily break our laws in order to do so. Please don't demean and minimise the entire Civil Rights struggle by comparing slaves to voluntary criminals. | ||
| JM April 10, 2006 09:53 AM PDT By the way, Jimmy, here's a concrete example of American workers being removed from a job site when illegals showed up: An Alabama employment agency that sent 70 laborers and construction workers to job sites in that state in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina says the men were sent home after just two weeks on the job by employers who told them "the Mexicans had arrived" and were willing to work for less. http://www.washtimes.com/national/20060410-123506-1297r.htm | ||
| Jacqueline Bowns April 11, 2006 03:56 PM PDT Absolutely no amnesty for ILLEGAL aliens. They're not obeying the laws now, what would make them obey then? | ||
| TCM April 27, 2006 06:37 AM PDT "Members of every ethnic and racial group are encouraged to cling to their separate identities rather than consider themselves Americans." More power to you, Cav. This single, concise sentence is the most elegant and insightful description in decades of the bizarre, sugar-coated racism that is political correctness. Rather than uniting all Americans under one banner, this sort of well-intentioned Liberal short-sightedness only ensures that a member of any ethnic group will go through life feeling ostracized and with a chip on his shoulder. | ||
