There's a lot of negative buzz these days about MySpace.com, a social networking site currently popular among young people. The news reports story after story about predators stalking kids and teens on MySpace, all of which make it sound like a dangerous site that no right-thinking person would visit. Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott is even reported to be "cracking down" on "sites like MySpace.com." A dangerous web site that allows sickos to access the personal information of teenagers ought to be shut down, right? Where's my torch and pitchfork? |
| Bobat May 24, 2006 07:58 AM PDT It's great to know that there are others who don't think that the host site is to blame for the sick thoughts of other people. But there are still people out there that will still blame the "creators"... just like blaming the tobacco companies for having lung cancer, or McDonald's for you burning yourself with hot coffee... ridiculous... | ||
| Irish Diablo May 24, 2006 09:11 AM PDT Great post Cav. I am sick and tired of seeing these reports about MySpace and how it attributes to deviancy. The only ones to blame are the kids who are knowingly doing something stupid and the parents for not being aware of what their child is doing. Bobat - The tobacco companies are different from the others. They literally have been given a license to sell poison. McDonalds sells food that is fattening and full of cholesterol but it does not contain small traces of cyanide. | ||
| SalGal May 27, 2006 12:00 PM PDT Bravo!!! Bravo!!! I bet you scared the crap out of that girl. She's probably looking over her shoulder for you now. <EG> | ||
| Adam F. Kohler June 12, 2006 08:05 AM PDT Great article! We need to get the word out. Schools should be doing this and parents aren't listened to. | ||
| Mutter June 21, 2006 08:08 AM PDT I am almost 63 and joined my Space a couple of months back. I find it fun, & friendly. Yes, I too have been approached by seedy suspicious characters, ye, mostly females who display their private parts, and me being slow, got to see one, who was asking for my credit card particulars for proof I was over 18 years. Eh, credit card to clean me out, more like. | ||
